Towering above the intersection of Alamo and Commerce streets near the banks of San Antonio’s famous Riverwalk sits a monument that has become an important emblem of our city’s art scene. Known as “The Torch of Friendship,” the 65-foot, reddish-orange steel sculpture is the work of Sebastián, a sculptor hailing from Mexico, who created the 45-ton abstract installation on behalf of the local Mexican business community, which presented the piece to the city of San Antonio in 2002.
Sebastián, one of the world’s great sculptors, will appear at a gala event at the Children’s Rehabilitation Institute TeletonUSA (CRIT) on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 6:30 in the evening. CRIT’s connection with Sebastián goes back to 1996 as he presented the founding CRIT in Mexico City a sculpture he called “De Corazón a Corazón,” which translates to “Heart to Heart.”
Event proceeds will benefit children and their families served by CRIT. With your support, we will continue to provide state-of-the-art rehabilitation services that empower patients to reach their full potential with inclusion to society.
Help us provide rehabilitation services to hundreds of children with disabilities and their families from across the United States.
